Can’t Find the Answer You’re Looking For?

Every person’s situation is unique, and you may have questions that aren’t covered here. Whether you’re looking for more information about counseling services, insurance coverage, appointments, or finding the right therapist, our team is happy to help.

Do I really need therapy?

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you’ve faced, there’s nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it. In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.

how do I know which service is right for me?

You don’t need to have all the answers before contacting us. Many clients come to Pathways of Florida knowing they need support but aren’t sure which type of counseling or therapy would be the best fit for their needs.

During your initial consultation, our team will take the time to learn about your concerns, goals, and circumstances. Based on that conversation, we can recommend the services, therapist, or treatment approach that may be most beneficial for you or your family.

Whether you’re seeking support for anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, relationship challenges, parenting concerns, personal growth, or simply navigating a difficult life transition, we’re here to help guide you toward the right path. Our goal is to make the process feel comfortable, supportive, and tailored to your unique needs.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is a collaborative process designed to help you better understand yourself, navigate life’s challenges, and work toward meaningful personal growth. During a typical counseling session, you’ll discuss current concerns, life experiences, emotions, relationships, and progress toward your goals in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.

Because every person’s needs are different, therapy may be short-term and focused on a specific concern such as anxiety, stress, ADHD, or relationship challenges, or it may be longer-term to address deeper patterns, trauma, or ongoing personal development. Most clients attend sessions regularly, often on a weekly basis.

Your therapist may also suggest exercises, journaling, or other activities between sessions to help reinforce the progress you’re making in therapy.

Do I Need Therapy, Medication, or Both?

It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness.  Working with your medical doctor you can determine what’s best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.

Do you accept insurance?

To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them.  Check your coverage carefully and make sure you understand their answers.  Some helpful questions you can ask them:

  • What are my mental health benefits?
  • What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
  • How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
  • How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Are sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and psychotherapist. Successful therapy requires a high degree of trust with highly sensitive subject matter that is usually not discussed anywhere but the therapist’s office.   Every therapist should provide a written copy of their confidential disclosure agreement, and you can expect that what you discuss in session will not be shared with anyone.  This is called “Informed Consent”.  Sometimes, however, you may want your therapist to share information or give an update to someone on your healthcare team (your Physician, Naturopath, Attorney), but by law your therapist cannot release this information without obtaining your written permission.

However, state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

* Suspected past or present abuse, abandonment, exploitation, or neglect of children, vulnerable adults, and elders to the authorities, including Florida Department of Children & Families and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.
* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming him/herself or has threatened to harm another person.
